4th Annual Lajna Ima’illah Regional Youth Camp West Midwest, 2012
The fourth annual West Midwest Regional Lajna Imaillah Youth Camp took place from Saturday, April 21st to Sunday April 22nd, 2012 at the Zion Mission House in the historical city of Zion, Illinois. VIRGINIA CENTRAL: A youth potluck dinner was arranged in which youth discussed topics raised in the media in December including The Learning Channel’s TV show about Muslims and also the controversy about Lowes pulling out as a sponsor of the show after protests from a Christian group. Youth discussed validity of the show and also the reasons for anti Muslim sentiments in some parts of American society. It was then decided that the topic for the next meeting would be the misunderstanding of Sharia law... GEORGIA: Youth with their mentor got together for “Lunch and a Movie.” There were 7 Youth Lajna in attendance. The meeting started with the recitation and translation of Sura Al – Takathur. The Philadelphia Youth took a trip to Pennsylvania’s Eastern State Penitentiary, the first modern-day prison in America (closed since the 1970's). It was not only an informational visit about the history of Philadelphia and the prison system of that time, but also helped us gain an insight to the religious influence affecting that period...
.--Youth accompanied by Lajna, visited the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Riverside, California for a project of preparing quilts for needs around the world.
